love this one so much! agree with jaime - it was the first time I saw collectible design at my mom's fancy friend's (I was 19) and it was weird but I knew it was special and fabulous
Oh these are all good 👀👀👀 can’t lie I got my actual dream couch (like had bookmarked it years before as a “if I ever won the lottery” item while living without a couch for a few years due to space/a complete inability to commit lol) during a wild online estate sale a two years ago - Montauk Sofa’s Jones model, in a gorgeous grey tweedy wool, flippant down cushions, sturdy wood frame. It was BRUTAL to move to my old apt even with help (tiniest queens studio possible with very twisty staircase) but WORTH IT. I joke to my partner that I would take it in a fire over him ¯\_(ツ)_/ carrying that massive wood frame beast on my back wherever the hell i go!!
These are all so good! This makes me want to light my couch on fire. Also made me think of this post by Sami Reiss about why no one has good furniture anymore! https://snake.substack.com/p/why-doesnt-anybody-have-good-furniture?utm_source=publication-search
oooh wow thanks for another great substack rec!!
A +1 for Bastiano—love how adaptable it is depending on the frame and upholstery choice. This whole list is sublime!
So many good picks from people with impeccable taste! It was so hard to pick a fave!

Vintage: Anfibio leather sofa by Alessandro Becci for Giovannetti - a piece that I’ve been obsessed with for more than 10 years, it was so striking to me when I first saw it - long before blob sofas became trendy - but it still looks special and so laid back cool 70s https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/seating/sofas/anfibio-leather-sofa-alessandro-becchi-giovannetti/id-f_11627093/
New: ive never stopped loving the open frame form and leather version of LA designer Stephen Kenn. Particularly the brass frame with natural leather. I sat on it at a store maybe 12 years ago and have not gotten it out of my memory how amazing it felt and how nicely it patinated https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/seating/sofas/waxed-moss-leather-antique-brass-sofa/id-f_28813342/?allowUniversalLink=no&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsaqzBhDdARIsAK2gqneG4XMXcdXgPIWdapxrwH8SVd7EsUG1ugNOkHRDsQU_jhoKYWmoqaIaAuF6EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
