Have you read Griffin Dunne’s memoir, The Friday Afternoon Club? There are some fun anecdotes about the Dakota, Hotel des Artistes, and the Ansonia (including, ah, Plato’s Retreat).

My parents had friends who lived in apartments like this -- ones that looked like and were the actual locations used to shoot Woody Allen movies. I was maybe 30? 35? before it dawned on me that the arc of my housing was never headed to an apartment like that. But boy, were they fun to hang out in.

Love this vignette of your parents’ home! Not many current New Yorkers will get the chance to a glimpse inside these historic residences. There’s a nostalgic beauty to it.

Rent control in nyc fascinates me! I loved the tv show “only nursery in the building” and how they show the community of people living in the building. Eg. Martin short had a vintage car all these years and Steve Martin never knew it 😂 thanks for this sneak peek!
