Good Schmutz aka Things I Found and Love, vol. 3
16 things. Including a gardening hack from Shrek.
Welcome back to Good Schmutz, where I, Leonora, a former editor in chief of a shelter publication, give you recs on home/decor/interiors stuff.
But first! [Bugle horn noise] Schmatta has officially been recognized by THE PRESS. I talked with Business of Home about the new wave of design writing happening on Substack. Congrats as well to my contemporaries

And away. we. GO!
#1: Thee Princess of Ceramics, Her Royal Helen-ess Levi, reached out to me with fantastic sale news: “I’m having a first-and-only sale on my wall tile line. There is a limited inventory left from the initial run, some of which won’t be restocked, so this is a great chance for the small projects people may have (kitchen backsplash etc).” If you are local to NYC or L.A. and can pick up tile in person, enter code LOCALPICKUP for 30% off pickup orders. Not local? Enter code SHIPIT for 20% off shipped orders. Start shopping here.
#2: Absolutely indulgent triple-layer organza pillows from iko iko in L.A. which are lavishly overpriced. Yet they’re giving Grotto Girl vibes, so why not smoke some opium out of a Snarfblatt and buy a few for your birthday?
#3: Everyone please subscribe to
, the fantastic travel newsletter brought to you by my friends and fellow DailyCandy alums, Jeralyn and Pavia. These ladies are the brains behind Fathom and their Substack is full of fantastic city guides and non-fussy travel recs.#4: Anotha newsletta I love: Might seem like an obvi rec because they are way popular on Substack, but I really do love
(co-produced by another DailyCandy alum!). This interview made my day.#5: If you are over the IKEA Trofast system for kids’ storage (I am), this very cool German woman created a v. v. cute storage bench using what looks like HAY plastic crates.
Another person in the U.K. did something similar but as a coffee table on rollers. Neato!
#6: The aluminum/stainless/metal kitchen trend that coalesced in Q2 of 2023 might have some staying power. See: Very Simple: Kitchen, an Italian company offering modular, metal kitchen designs that are quite cute.
They do powder-coated metal in colorful hues or au naturel. Sorry, I do not know if they ship to the States.
#7: There’s also Abimis, another Italian metal kitchen outfitter (TY,
.)
